The harsh reality of their disappointing start is beginning to set in for the Columbus Blue Jackets. With 15 games in the books, the Blue Jackets have just nine points to show for their efforts. It’s not clear how many points will be needed to make the playoffs in the East this season, but it doesn’t take a mathematician to figure out the Blue Jackets are in bad shape.
In a video seen from The Columbus Dispatch, defenseman James Wisniewski outlines the ugly situation the club is currently facing.
Wisniewski believes it’s going to take roughly 96 points to make the playoffs. With 15 games in the books and 67 to go, the team has to accumulate 87 more points to reach Wisniewski’s total. That’s asking a lot, especially considering the Blue Jackets have picked up just one point over their last nine games.
What’s wrong with the Blue Jackets? If you know the definitive answer, inform head coach Todd Richards. The team has allowed 55 goals this season (2nd-most in the NHL behind Buffalo) and have the highest goals against average in the NHL with 3.67. Numbers that bad ask some serious questions of the men on defense and in the crease. Add those stats to the fact the team is 21st in the league in offense and you’re left with one of the worst records in the league.
