Martin Havlat suffered a brutal injury when the New Jersey Devils battled the Washington Capitals last week. Jason Chimera drove Havlat into both the official and the boards, resulting in some pretty nasty lacerations on Havlat’s face.
Here’s video of the hit and injury. Be warned, there’s a decent amount of blood shown.

The end result was 55 stitches and a reattached upper lip. If you want to see what that looks like, scroll on…

Despite all of the stitches and the whole “reattached lip” deal, Havlat isn’t expected to miss much time. He’s scheduled to play as early as Tuesday against the New York Rangers, but no one would fault him if he decided he needs a few more days.
