We are just minutes away from puck drop in Sochi on the men's hockey tournament we've all waited four years for. The writers at Puck Drunk Love will be bringing you updates and analysis of all the action throughout the tournament.
With that said, we wanted to give you our official predictions, if for no other reason than to let you mock us in 10 days' time. Have a look, and then tell us who you've got!
Writer | Gold | Silver | Bronze | Fourth | Tournament Surprise | Disappointment |
Mike Salerno | Canada | Sweden | Finland | USA | Finland | Russia |
Steve Lepore | Sweden | Russia | USA | Canada | Switzerland | Czech Republic |
Jeff Kleiman | Canada | Sweden | USA | Finland | Czech Republic | Russia |
Derek Rocco | Russia | Canada | Sweden | Czech Republic | Czech Republic | USA |
Laura Astorian | Canada | Sweden | USA | Russia | Czech Republic | Russia |
David Rogers | Canada | Russia | Sweden | USA | Russia | USA |
To nobody's surprise, the staff has considered Canada the favorite to successfully defend their gold medal. In fact, all of us beside Steve have them reaching the gold medal game.
Expecatations are low for Team USA, as they were in 2010 prior to a somewhat cinderella-like run to overtime against Canada. Like Canada playing for gold, all but one of us (Derek) has the Americans playing for bronze.
Interestingly enough, a number of us have a close eye on the Czech Republic. Steve, however, has the Swiss knocking them off. Mike and Jeff, meanwhile, have the host nation flaming out somewhat spectacularly while everyone else has them at least playing for a shot at the medal stand.
It'll be fascinating seeing which team may rise to the occasion in Sochi. In a single-elimination format, anything can happen.
Whether you're supporting your country or your favorite team's players all over, be sure to stick with Puck Drunk Love all tournament long!
