Teemu Selanne has three options when it comes to his future as a professional hockey player. The 43-year-old's options include returning to Anaheim (or maybe a different club) and skating in the NHL for one more year, traveling to Finland and spending some time in the SM-liiga, or hanging up his skates and working on his golf game.
Which option will Selanne pick? That's yet to be determined, but the veteran has recently met with Anaheim GM Bob Murray. According to NHL.com, the meeting between Murray and Selanne went well and the two agreed to meet again in the near future.
It's worth noting that Selanne has been training in Southern California with Craig Johnson, a former member of the Ducks. The fact Selanne is training in California seems like a positive if you're rooting for him to play in the NHL for one more year (who isn't?), but we shouldn't jump to conclusions. Selanne still seems torn on his future and labels this as the "biggest decision of his career."
According to Murray, the Ducks would welcome Selanne back to the club if he's 100-percent committed to playing. Murray mentions that the Ducks has cap space (roughly $4.3 million according to CapGeek) and that the team would find a way to incorporate Selanne into their plans if he wants to keep playing in the NHL.
Selanne stated, "It's up to me, if I feel like it, I can focus on golf."
Let's hope he keeps his golf game on hold.
