Jaromir Jagr traded to the Boston Bruins

Jaromir Jagr has been traded from the Dallas Stars to the Boston Bruins in exchange for two prospects (Lane MacDermid and Cody Payne) and a draft pick. The Jagr news comes just shortly after the Stars dealt Derek Roy to the Vancouver Canucks, indicating Dallas is in full sell mode.

After a surprising shift to the Western Conference prior to 2013, Jagr now returns to his familiar stomping grounds in the East. He jumps from a team sputtering at the end of the season to one battling for one of the top playoff spots.

Jagr was given a one-year, $4.5 million contract by the Stars prior to 2013. He's set to be an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season.

Jagr will be back sporting black and gold but this time it won't be with the Pittsburgh Penguins. He now joins a Boston squad that's still reeling from losing out on Jarome Iginla to the previously mentioned Penguins, but they're still in the thick of it in the Eastern Conference.

What does Jagr have left in the tank? Plenty, apparently. In 34 games with the Stars, Jagr has 14 goals and 12 assists (26 points). Six of these goals came with the man advantage. Remarkably, Jagr is poised to surpass his goal total from 2011-12 (19) in an abbreviated season. Obviously you shouldn't expect Jagr to be the player he was from a decade ago, but he's a nice offensive weapon that still has plenty to give during a run for the Cup.

Dallas was rumored to be negotiating with both Jagr and Derek Roy over contract extensions, but it's believed little progress was made. The Stars must have felt they were too far apart to make a deal and instead dealt their players now in order to ensure they received a return for their guys before they lost them to free agency.

Whether Dallas received enough for Jagr is up for debate (they didn't), but you can safely remove another name off of the list for April 3rd's deadline.

Jagr now joins his sixth team during his storied NHL career which began way back in 1990-91 with the Pittsburgh Penguins. Casual fans should be rejoicing as this means Jagr will once again be a fixture in the NHL playoffs.
