Bruins ship Dougie Hamilton to the Flames, Milan Lucic to the Kings

The Boston Bruins have been the most active team heading into the 2015 NHL Draft. First, they traded defenseman Dougie Hamilton to the Calgary Flames in exchange for the 15th, 45th and 52nd overall picks in the 2015 Draft. Later, they flipped Milan Lucic to the LA Kings in exchange for the 13th overall pick, goaltender. Martin Jones and prospect Colin Miller.

It was believed the Bruins needed to make some big changes this summer and their two deals today certainly fit that bill. The Lucic deal was mostly expected, but the Hamilton trade caught most fans by surprise. At 22, Hamltion has already emerged as one of the league’s most exciting blueliners and produced 42 points in 72 games last season.

The Bruins apparently tried to lock down Hamilton, but the two sides couldn’t agree on a deal.

Bruins fans won’t be happy with the return for Hamilton (which is fair), but they accomplished their goal of picking up a haul of draft picks and some interesting talent (Jones, Miller) by moving both players.

The organization is rebuilding for the future and that’s always a difficult task. Are these two trades a good start?
