Kimmo Timonen made it well known that he was planning to retire after the Stanley Cup Final. In fact, Timonen even mentioned he was “days from retirement” as the Blackhawks stepped closer to their third Cup victory in six years. What will Timonen do after he hangs ’em up? He has suggested he might be interested in coaching and the Philadelphia Flyers are interested in talking to the defenseman about a front office position.
Via CSN Philly, GM Ron Hextall stated he hasn’t talked to Timonen yet, but he plans to sit down and talk to Timonen about a potential role with the Flyers. Hextall outlined that he won’t speak with a player about a front office role until the player has officially retired, but he has every intention of speaking with Hextall when the time comes.
There’s no indication regarding what kind of role the Flyers might be able to offer, but Timonen would make a solid assistant coach with his 1,108 games of regular season experience and 105 games of playoff experience including a Cup victory.
