The Vancouver Canucks are looking to trade away one of their goaltenders. With Ryan Miller apparently holding down the starting job, the Canucks believe they can part ways with either Eddie Lack or Jacob Markstrom. In return, the club believes they’ll receive a “fairly high draft pick” for either goalie.
This news comes straight from Canucks GM Jim Benning, who spoke with TSN radio. Benning’s comments were transcribed by The Score.
Yeah, we’ve had lots of calls. … They’ve talked about one of our younger goalies – both Eddie Lack and Jacob Markstrom. When we decide what we’re going to do, I think we’ll have options to move one of those guys when we decide we’re going to do it.
I think the demand for the goalies – I’m confident we can get a fairly high draft pick. When we decide which goalie we’re going to keep moving forward, then we’ll act on it and I think we’ll be able to recover a fairly high pick.
We’ve already touched on the fact the Canucks are shopping Lack and how that might not be the smartest idea, but the team will have to make a decision and move one of their netminders. There may be a decent number of goalies available either through free agency of trade this summer, so a “fairly high draft pick” sounds like a pretty realistic return for either Lack of Markstrom.
