The Ottawa Senators have a trio of goaltenders and they’re willing to make a trade if the price is right. Andrew Hammond was recently signed to a three-year deal and isn’t on the table, but the Sens would be willing to move either Robin Lehner or Craig Anderson. According to the Ottawa Sun, the club would be willing to part with either Lehner or Anderson if they receive a top young player and a high draft pick.
The price for Lehner should be higher than Anderson, but the report from the Ottawa Sun indicates the team is looking for roughly the same return (top young skater and a high pick) for either netminder. A top young skater refers to a young player capable of playing on the Senators’ top-6 forwards, but there’s no telling what the Senators’ definition of a “high” draft pick is.
Which teams are interested in Lehner and Anderson? Reports suggest the Oilers, Sabres and Flames have asked about Lehner while the Sharks and Blues have asked about Anderson. There’s no telling how interested any of these teams are, but interest is high in both goalies.
The Senators are in a nice position because they have an asset (capable goalies) and numerous NHL teams are looking for help in net. Those teams could easily wait for free agency to begin to solve their goaltending needs (if they believe the talent will be available), which means the Senators should be active in the trade market while they have several teams interested.
