Here’s an incredibly sad story out of Vancouver. A fan of the Vancouver Canucks is suing the team after sustaining a serious head injury caused by the barrel of a confetti cannon which fell from the arena’s ceiling during the Canucks’ 2011 playoff game against San Jose.
The lawsuit, as reported by the Toronto Sun, details that a portion of the confetti cannon fell and struck Davis Robert Baynton who was just 15 years old at the time of the incident. The report states that Baynton suffered some serious injuries including a traumatic brain injury and post-traumatic amnesia. Baynton claims that his injuries have left him with a permanent physical disability. As a result, he’s suing the makers of the cannons, the Canucks and their owners.
Right now it looks like the Canucks and the third party supplier, Hollynorth Production Supplies, are placing the blame on one another. The Canucks say that the supplier’s insurance should be covering the issue while the supplier believes the Canucks moved or altered the cannons following the installation, thus removing the blame from the supplier.
We’ll have to wait and see how this lawsuit plays out in court, but we’re hoping one of the two parties (if not both) steps up and makes things right for this young fan.
