Gary Bettman says an outdoor game in Minnesota will happen

Gary Bettman has confirmed what most of us already knew. During the first intermission between the Minnesota Wild and the Montreal Canadiens, Bettman joined Fox Sports North and the topic of an outdoor game came up. Bettman’s quotes from the interview revealed that we should all be expecting an outdoor game to take place in Minnesota in the near future.

Here are his statements on an outdoor game in Minnesota, as transcribed by The Score:

“It’s going to happen. Obviously, there may be no better place to play an outdoor game. The facilities are here. The last time I was here, last winter, we took a look at a couple of venues.

It’s really a question of timing and whether or not we do a Winter Classic or one of the Stadium Series games. But when you look at the fan base, the facilities, the organization and the weather, an outdoor game will work here, and we’ll bring it here.”

In summary, Bettman hasn’t revealed any details nor does it appear that the NHL has anything finalized at this time. An outdoor game in Minnesota is a no-brainer, so we’re actually kind of surprised the NHL is moving forward with plans to bring a game up north.

Maybe now we’ll also see a Winter Classic featuring two new teams?
