Report: Sharks will change from black to teal jerseys in the playoffs

The San Jose Sharks are planning to make a uniform change. Instead of switching things up this summer as we’ve seen other teams do, the Sharks are going the opposite route. They’re planning to move from black jerseys to teal jerseys in the playoffs.

This is an interesting move, assuming the report above is to be believed. The Sharks aren’t unveiling new uniforms, but planning a color change for the playoffs before the season even starts is kind of odd. Cart before the horse? Fans will draw a parallel that the Sharks believe a uniform change in the playoffs might end their history of choking in the second season.

If you’re facing down a belief or stigma that casts an ugly shadow on your team, wouldn’t you try your best to avoid bringing attention to it or recognizing it? Why give it any merit by casting aside old sweaters or a color?

All of that aside, it’ll be nice to see San Jose back in their familiar teal. Too many teams have adopted black in their uniforms, so it’s refreshing to see the Sharks wear a more unique look on the game’s biggest stage. Of course, we’d love to see the Sharks fall short of the postseason simply so that we can see how the team handles an embarrassing situation.
