John Tavares focused on hockey as arena questions loom

John Tavares isn’t fretting over the New York Islanders arena troubles.

Earlier this week, reports suggested the Barclay Center was the verge of kicking the team out of the arena due to future earnings projections. With the Islanders drawing constantly low attendances, alternatives such as hosting concerts likely offer arena owners more of a profit share. Nothing has been settled, but it appears the Islanders might not have a home beyond 2018-19.

Despite the concerns about where the team will play next year, captain John Tavares told the Associated Press he’s not focused about where the Islanders will play, but instead, his attention is towards getting the Islanders into the playoffs.

”I’m just going to try to get ready for every game,” the captain said Tuesday. ”I’ve got enough to worry about just trying to focus on playing and making the playoffs. I think all that stuff will take care of itself.”

It’s little surprise Tavares is focusing on the season and leaving the arena situation to play itself out. There’s nothing he can do, so until the Islanders are actually kicked out of the arena or the ordeal is resolved, he’s just working on what he can control.
