[link_box id=”22277″ site_id=”17″ layout=”link-box-third” alignment=”alignright”]Jarome Iginla is considering all of his options as Colorado’s season craters.
The veteran forward is entering his third season with the Avs and he’s yet to play a playoff game with the club. With Colorado’s season practically over already, the 39-year-old is looking for one last chance to win the Stanley Cup. Speaking with the Calgary Sun, Iginla said he’d be open to waive his no-trade clause for a playoff run.
“Yeah, I’d consider it,” he said Tuesday, per Wes Gilbertson of the Calgary Sun. “I’d love to be in the playoffs and have that chance.”
“That’s still the dream, and I think it’s still possible,” he added “I would love to. I tell you, I’d really appreciate it. I realize over all the years how many good things have to come together and how fortunate all the people that win it are.”
Iginla’s declining production and rising age mean he’s got little chance to win a Cup with the Avs. Moving to a team looking for a middle-six scoring winger and veteran presence seems like the most likely outcome. Colorado has little reason to keep Iginla around given their current placement in the standings, so it’s probably best they grant him what might be his last chance to win the Cup.
I hope Iginla can end his career with the Cup – he represents everything great about the NHL.
