Chris Kunitz entrusted Andrea Forsythe to take care of his home, but instead she robbed him while committing a series of crimes elsewhere. Now, she’s paying the price.
The Associated Press reporters Forsythe, who was a former nanny for Kunitz and his wife, was sentenced to five years in federal prison for committing false fraudulent insurance claims. The charges were brought against Forsythe after she set fire to her rental residence and claimed items on insurance in an attempt to recoup the financial cost.
In 2013, prosecutors say she stole $12,000 diamond earrings from Kunitz’s home which he bought for his wife as a gift. Forsythe admitted to stealing the diamonds from Maureen Kunitz bedroom while the couple wasn’t home. Forsythe sold the stolen possessions to a nearby jewelry store.
Forsythe’s criminal activity resulted in both criminal and punitive punishments. Along with a five-year federal prison sentence, Forsythe was ordered to pay more than $179,000 to insurance companies for the fraudulent insurance claims.
The sentence sounds about right for someone who stole and lied about possessions in order to capitalize financially. The issues likely extend beyond the search for money, as Forsythe’s public defender, said the crimes were connected to her alleged abusive upbringing. Hopefully, Forsythe can straighten out her life while beyond bars. As for Kunitz, I’m bet he’s glad the ordeal is over.
