New York Rangers forward Mika Zibanejad broke his fibula after crashing into the boards during overtime against the Florida Panthers.
Zibanejad was pursuing Reilly Smith around the Rangers’ goal when his skate got caught up with Smith’s. He lost his balance and fell awkwardly with his skate hitting the boards at an extremely sharp and direct angle.
Warning – Not for the squeamish.
That’s extremely tough to watch.
It’s really no surprise that Zibanejad is going to miss at least the next six-to-eight weeks.
Per AV: Mika Zibanejad out 6-8 weeks with broken fibula. Not good news #NYR

The Rangers might actually be lucky Zibanejad broke his fibula and didn’t have any significant ligament damage which might have extended his recovery time. Either way, it’s pretty painful to watch.
