[link_box id=”22277″ site_id=”17″ layout=”link-box-third” alignment=”alignright”]Vegas owner Bill Foley has already stated that the team name will be some sort of variation of Knights. Three names have been released so far – Golden Knights, Silver Knights and Desert Knights – and the new name is expected to be one of those three options barring a big surprise.
Frankly, any team name involving “Knights” is a huge missed opportunity for the new team. It seems kind of silly that the NHL could have the Knights and Kings competing in the same league and conference. Foley’s ties to West Point (who are the Black Knights) is evident, but it comes at the cost of an opportunity to create a whole new identity in the NHL.
Why not try something completely different? If you’re going to take on the risk of forming a new expansion team, why not build a brand new identity from day one?
