Shield your eyes: Predators will wear gold helmets at all home games

The Nashville Predators will be one bright team when they skate at home during the 2016-17 season. That’s bright in the literal sense as the Preds will abandon their navy helmets in favor of gold helmets for every home game in the upcoming season.

Why are the Predators making the change? It all comes down to branding.

According to the team’s website, the Predators are encouraged how the gold helmets have transitioned from a simple promotion last season at Saturday home games to a unique branding element for the organization.

Sean Henry, CEO and President of the Predators, commented on the change:

“As we grow the Gold throughout the whole community, it’s even more important to continue what we did on the ice with Golden Saturdays into all of our home games. The most integral part to our brand is Gold, and we’re going to display it as often as we possible can.”

There are going to be plenty of jokes made at the Preds’ expense. Rightfully so. It’s a lot of golden yellow for the eye to absorb at one time. That being said, it’s a unique look that the Predators can call their own. Considering all of the similar color schemes seen throughout the NHL, it’s not a bad idea – as long as you can stomach a lot of yellow.
