Tyler Seguin tried to hide an ankle injury to play in the World Cup

Tyler Seguin will miss the World Cup of Hockey due to an ankle injury, but the star forward tried his best to play despite his ailment. Not long after it was revealed that Ryan O’Reilly would replace Seguin in the tournament, Team Canada coach Mike Babcock revealed that Seguin hid and attempted to play through the injury.

“He said to us, ‘You know I haven’t been very truthful.'”

Seguin attempted to skate on his injured ankle, but upon finding it wasn’t improving as he had hoped, opened up to the coaching staff about his injury.

Babcock continued:

“It’s the same; the guys don’t tell you. Why would they tell you? They want to go. They think they’re going to get better and they’re going to push through it, and he tried to push through it. But he said even yesterday, when he started pushing through it, it started heating up right away. Now I don’t know what that means in medical terms but I know in coaching terms you’re not doing very good.”

If you’re still doubting whether or not the players care about the World Cup of Hockey, look to Seguin for your answer. He attempted to play through an injury just for the opportunity to represent his country.

Though Seguin’s injury will force him to miss the tournament, he’s expected to only miss a minimal amount of the Stars’ training camp. He should be back to full health long before the season opener.
