Statues are normally reserved for legendary figures that changed a sport. Like Michael Jordan outside of the United Center in Chicago or Wayne Gretzky outside of Rexall Place in Edmonton. So why the hell did a team in the KHL decide to make a statue for a cat outside of their arena? It may have all started with the $1,000 worth of seafood it ate.
As people were shopping in this Vladivostok airport, they noticed that this cat was at the seafood counter, eating its fair share of food. Stephen Douglas of The Big Lead wrote back in June that the cat ate $1,000 dollars worth of seafood. The clip, which is extremely odd, went viral. After it’s viral moment, it was adopted by KHL team Admiral Vladivostok, who then named the cat Matroska.

Matroska recently passed away, which is a shame. Do you think that this is the last time we will ever hear about Matroska? Admiral Vladivostok sure hopes not. So they decided to build a statue in the cat’s honor.
They unveiled the statue prior to its most recent game and it is exactly as advertised. A statue for a stinkin’ cat. I hope that Matroska ends up carrying Admiral Vladivostok to the Gagarin Cup. Nothing will be as sweet.
