The new NHL team in Las Vegas may finally have a name. A report from TSN suggests the brand new franchise will be called the Knights.
Hearing the team name will likely be the "Knights". Owner Bill Foley is the chairman of Black Knight Financial. https://t.co/5X1nv4BoyJ

Back in 2014, Bill Foley – who was just a prospective owner at that time – stated he would potentially name the Vegas club the Black Knights (a tribute to the Army Black Knights), but was also considering having fans choose the name in a poll or contest. Now it appears he has settled on his original name minus the color identifier.
Earlier this summer, the PDL team all took a stab at some potential names for the new team in Vegas. The Vegas puns were numerous, but most of the staff agreed that using the word “Knights” was a bit too familiar considering the Western Conference is also home to the Los Angeles Kings. Knights and Kings are too different ideas, but there doesn’t seem to be much originality considering the Kings are well established. Non-NHL fans could easily confuse the too, especially if the Vegas club opts to wear black as a primary color.
As owner, Foley can pretty much do as he pleases, but it’d be nice to see the Vegas team actually reflect the location it’s representing. Knights may mean a lot to Foley, but it might not make the most sense for the new hockey team.
