Ray Whitney will serve as a caddie at the Olympics in Rio

Ray Whitney hasn’t skated in the NHL since the 2013-14 season, but the 44-year-old is still about to head off to one of the biggest competitions in all of sports. Whitney won’t be competing, but he will serve as a caddie for Canadian golfer Graham DeLaet.

DeLaet’s regular caddie has opted to skip the trip to Rio for the Olympics in favor of starting a family. This opened a spot for Whitney who, along with former NHL skater Mike Commodore, regularly golfs with DeLaet.

Whitney has never competed in the Olympic games, but has competed for Canada at four World Championships. He failed to medal in any of the tournaments, but now he may have a shot to share a piece of metal should DeLaet have a strong performance.
