The hip check isn’t used too often in hockey these days, but when it’s deployed it usually results in a devastating collision. Dmitry Orlov tried to pull off an open-ice hip check on Nino Niederreiter, but things didn’t go according to plan.
It was still a pretty good hit, but you can tell Orlov was a bit confused when Niederreiter didn’t flip as he had hoped. He also wasn’t too happy when Niederreiter chucked his helmet into the corner.
Not the perfect example of a hip check, but a pretty funny hit.
