The Blue Jackets trolled Lightning fans on Twitter about Stamkos’ return

Steven Stamkos is closing in on a return to action, but he wasn’t able to suit up for Game 1 between the Tampa Bay Lightning and Pittsburgh Penguins. The Columbus Blue Jackets took the possibility that Stamkos might skate in Game 1 as an opportunity to troll Lightning fans on Twitter.

The Blue Jackets account replied to an old message the Lightning sent out in 2009 stating that Stamkos would be playing, making it appear he’d be ready for Game 1.

Fans who follow both teams saw the message and were instantly tricked into thinking Stamkos was back.

The Lightning responded with a message appropriate of a sibling squabble.

The conversation then shifted to GIFs.

And finally:

Twitter is more fun when NHL teams mock and poke fun at one another.
