Welcome to our final edition of Hockey Fights of the Week for the 2015-16 season. The regular season was an interesting one to say the least. Though fighting was down across the board in the NHL, there were still plenty of great scraps to watch. Such is the case in the final week of the regular season – not many fights, but a few gems.
5. Ryan Reaves (STL) vs Brandon Mashinter (CHI) – April 7th
Few teams hate each other more than the Blues and Blackhawks. Thankfully, we’re all about to be treated to a first-round matchup between the two rivals. This bout between Reaves and Mashinter wasn’t extraordinary, but it’s a great way to set the table for the playoffs.
4. Ryan Getzlaf (ANA) vs Luke Schenn (LA) – April 7th
Credit to the officials for not breaking this fight up too quickly. Things could have ended as soon as these two fell to the ice, but things were allowed to continue. We’re going to give Schenn the win based on how well he finishes the fight.
3. Scott Mayfield (NYI) vs Michael Latta (WAS) – April 5th
If you’re not familiar with Latta, you will be after you watch his two fights which rank #2 and #3 on this week’s list. Mayfield isn’t bad here, but Latta is that much better. When Mayfield’s arm gets caught on the back of Latta the end result is a big punch straight to the face.
2. Clayton Stoner (ANA) vs Michael Latta (WAS) – April 10th
Stoner is the more aggressive of the two players which eventually leads to his demise. As Stoner initiates things early, Latta sits back and remains patient, carefully choosing his time to strike. When it’s time, he connects several times including one awesome uppercut. Another great fight from Latta.
1. Cody McLeod (COL) vs Cody Bass (NSH) – April 5th
It seems rather fitting we close out the year with a fight from McLeod. We’ve talked about McLeod a lot this season (and in previous seasons) and here he puts on another solid showing. It’s not a dominant display, but it’s a win.
