At age 43, Jaromir Jagr is showing no signs of slowing down and seems to have plenty of gas left in the tank. Retirement still looks a long ways off, but Jagr has recently commented that when he does eventually hang up the skates, he wants to end his career with the Florida Panthers.
With 10 goals and 14 assists through 31 games, Jagr spoke with the Miami Herald on the talent around him and how he plans to end his career.
“It is special and it tells me I played with a lot of great players. That makes it a lot easier for me. I started in Pittsburgh with great players and I’m going to end here with great players.”
The other big point to take note of, aside from Jagr saying he wants to hang up his skates with the Panthers, is that he thinks the future is extremely bright for the organization. Comparing the Panthers to the Penguins of old is a pretty big complement and speaks volumes of what Jagr believes is in store for the franchise.
The Panthers are loaded with some young talent, but it remains to be seen if they’ll develop on their current track. The Panthers are right in the thick of things in the East, but they’ll need their current young stars to take the next step forward and they’ll likely need to pick up another piece or two as Jagr’s career draws to a close.
