Change is coming to the Florida Panthers. No, that doesn’t mean relocation rumors. With the team receiving a big injection of additional public funds, the Panthers actually look like a lock to stay where they are. However, they may have a completely new look and logo when you see them next season.
The Miami Herald reports that the Panthers will unveil a new uniform and a new logo in 2016-17. The details of the change are vague at this time, but the report suggests that the team will have a color scheme similar to their traditional red, gold and blue. Exactly how big of a role those colors may play is also considerably vague.
Here’s a few more thoughts from the Miami Herald:
As it has been explained to me, expect a horizontal logo (like the Blackhawks, although perhaps in a circle crest) on a horizontal striped sweater (like the Canadiens). The alternate palm tree/hockey stick logo will likely be lost in the transition.
It’ll be interesting to see how this pans out. Major jersey and logo changes are almost always met with mixed reactions by fans. The Dallas Stars accomplished a lot with their rebrand, but the Panthers have seen what can happen when a team starts tinkering (remember the blue on blue Panthers sweaters?) with their look.
