Report: Patrick Roy isn’t a fan of Matt Duchene

Patrick Roy has been criticized pretty heavily for his handling of the Colorado Avalanche. A new report suggests that Roy isn’t a fan of Matt Duchene and the team may be shopping the forward for help on defense.

The trade rumors are significant enough as is, but apparently head coach Patrick Roy isn’t a fan of the team’s best player.

Duchene, 24, is an extremely talented forward who has been a leader for the Avs on offense. He had a down year in 2014-15 by his standards, scoring 55 points compared to the 70 he had in 2013-14. That was still an impressive total considering how bad the Avalanche were last season.

Even though Duchene is still young and appears to have a high ceiling which hasn’t been reached quite yet, Roy is reportedly not a fan. There’s no telling what may be happening behind the scenes, but common sense says that the coach should find a way to make things work with the team’s best offensive weapon.

Will this situation mimic the Ryan O’Reilly debacle? The Avs traded away a strong offensive weapon for assets which – to date – have failed to pan out. Are they ready to drive out another skilled skater over a matter of egos? It certainly seems possible, especially if Roy isn’t a fan.

You can add this reported Duchene situation to the growing list of ways Roy is holding the Avs back.
