The Boston Bruins paid a visit to the White House today in commemoration of their Stanley Cup Championship.
Among the many perks of taking a title home — parades, not paying for drinks ever, fame — visiting the White House and mugging with the president must rank at the top, even for teams of eclectic national origins. Besides Lord Stanley’s Cup, the Boston Bruins who boast Canadians, Slovaks, Czechs, Fins and Germans, along with a trio of Americans, paid a visit to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue and posed with President Obama who celebrated the team’s championship.
In addition to feting the club’s accomplishments on-ice, the President called out attention to the charitable work done by the Boston Bruins Foundation.
But the President did not hesitate to poke at the embarrassment of riches Boston sports fans have enjoyed in the last decade commenting, “the Bruins, the Sox, the Celtics, now the Patriots. Enough already, Boston.”
The Bruins will remain in Washington. They are back on the ice tomorrow night facing the Capitals at the Verizon Center in downtown DC.
