SAN JOSE, CA – MAY 08: Logan Couture #39 of the San Jose Sharks celebrates after he scored a goal to put the Sharks up 3-1 over the Detroit Red Wings in Game Five of the Western Conference Semifinals during the 2011 NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs at HP Pavilion on May 8, 2011 in San Jose, California. Logan Couture injured 4-6 weeks with broken fibula

In a twist of cruel fate, Logan Couture fell during practice and is now out for four to six weeks with a broken right fibula down by the ankle. As a newly named alternate captain, it is especially painful for the young center, who looked to take more of a leadership role in the ever-changing Sharks leadership conglomerate.

Couture had been playing with Joel Ward and Patrick Marleau on the second line which proved to be a successful line.

What exactly are the Sharks going to be missing in Couture?

Dashboard 1

He is without a doubt one of the better goal scorers in the league over the course of the past three years which should come to no surprise to people who follow the Sharks closely. He is in his prime right now as a 26 year old and is proving to be a worthy investment at only 6 million dollars a year.

The replacement they are going to be bringing in will be Tomas Hertl, a young quick player who is one of the team’s leading scorers. He had a bit of a down year last season but it only seems to be a sophomore slump as he continues to improve this year.

Are the Sharks going to miss Couture? Sure. Are they going to be just fine without him? Most likely. Their strong start only spells trouble for a Pacific division that has had its fair share of surprises.
