Video: Patrick Marleau scored four goals in a period

Here’s something you might have missed in your east coast slumber last night: Patrick Marleau went all Mario Lemieux on the Colorado Avalanche, scoring four goals in a period for the first time since Le Magnifique did it in 1997.

When you join a list with Mario Lemieux on it, it’s mighty impressive … especially when you’re only the 12th person on that list. Just as impressive was that there was nary an empty netter in the bunch. He scored on a deflection, a wraparound, a two-on-one, and a breakaway. And just to throw in a kicker he did it at the age of 37, the exception to the rule that hockey is a young man’s game.
