Predators lose game on blown Matt Duchene offside call

There have been more than a few questionable calls so far this season that have potentially cost teams a point or two in the standings. The latest victim? The Nashville Predators, who were scored upon by Matt Duchene – a very offside Matt Duchene. From TSN's Instagram feed comes the helpful illustration above.

Yeah, it looks like he might be a little bit over the line. If you can't see the puck or a blue line in front of you, chances are good that yes, you've overshot the puck a bit and you should expect to hear a whistle. It's even more obvious on the video from CBS's Eye On Hockey:

Yes, what a play indeed! What a play that never should have happened, as the NHL told Nashville coach Barry Trotz. "Oops, yeah, our bad. Sorry about that! Bad call… you probably could have won that game if that call was made. You didn't need those two points, did you?"

Sure, the Predators allowed five other goals that contributed to their demise, but the game ended as a one-goal game. That makes Colorado's goal that never should have happened look pretty bad, like so many other blown calls this season.

The season's half as long and the refs are making twice as many mistakes. Seems about right.
